Personality:

Beck literally has two sides to himself.

There's...well, Beck first off.

When he's not training, or causing trouble for Tesler's army, he's a very laid-back kind of program. He's often seen working at the garage (but this gets less and less often as the series goes on, since he dedicates a lot of his time to training more than not), where he works as a mechanic. And there, he doesn't do much of anything important. His primary function is to work on vehicles that are seen around the Grid: from light cycles and helicopters, to General Tesler's tanks, you name it. Even though there are very many employees working to fix a broken code, or modify something for someone, Beck was seen as one of the more talented workers. Working as a mechanic was something that he was good at, and enjoyed to do. And still does, even though his time at the garage is constantly growing slimmer.

Beck also enjoys spending time with his two best friends- Zed and Mara. They can either be seen working together, or out and about the city, or relaxing at one of the local clubs. Especially after losing Bodhi just recently, the three of them often loosen up when they're out together. Beck can especially be himself around his friends, even though he has a rather big secret to keep from them. He has a good sense of humor, and isn't afraid to tease them, or be teased in return. Or if one of them is having a rough day, he'll gladly stick around to listen if they have to get something off of their chest, or lend a shoulder.

Even before training to be the next Tron, he had a good, natural ability to throwing his identity disc, thanks to the games he and his friends have played. In the actual games, disc wars is seen as a rather deadly sport. It's much more violent, and it always ends up with one of the two competitors being derezzed. But Beck and his friends have turned it into a friendly little sport, and a good way to blow off steam.

To any other program, Beck can be seen as light, carefree and young.
But when he's the Renegade...

Beck has always been shown to be noble, even when he's not dressed to impress. Before he agreed to train with Tron to become the next in line, he sped after a light rail that had been carrying Zed, Mara, and a big group of programs to the Coliseum against their will, even though he was one against an army, and had no kind of plan whatsoever. He didn't give up, no matter how poor the odds were.
No matter who or what or why, he will not take a life. There have been many times where he managed to overthrow an enemy program, and had every opportunity to derezz them...but he never did. Many can question as to why, but his noble personality was one of the reasons why Tron chose Beck in the first place.

His nobility is to the point where he even stood up to Tron himself, when his mentor sought out to destroy an old enemy of his. Although Beck hadn't been strong enough to stop him, he tried everything in his power to prevent it from happening. And thanks to him, Tron ended up making the right decision in the end- allowing that program to live.
This can also be quite a weakness.

While Beck has so far refused to take a life (...except for once. just one time), there are others out there who aren't as noble as he is. This is mostly in regard to those under Tesler's rule, who are ordered to derez when necessary, and by golly they do so. There have been a few times during fights where Beck has hesitated, and it has resulted in him getting his butt whooped unnecessarily.

Even though Beck strives to keep the uprising alive in the most proper way possible, he understands that some things that threaten the cause must be taken care of, even if it means by derezzing that problem. At the beginning of the series when he was selected to participate in the Games, he met another program named Cutler, who was also against the idea of Tesler and his army. They both agreed to meet again and start a plan of their own...but when they did, Cutler had been reprogrammed to work under Clu. When Beck tried to force the other to fight against his new programming, and saw there was no use in the matter, he derezzed him. Though it wasn't by his hand, Beck was responsible for Cutler's death all the same.

It's also been shown that when something personal comes up, he wants to become more and more involved. Which is normal, of course, but for the Renegade, it's best to be something to keep hidden. There have been simulations during his training where somehow, a person from Tesler's army knows who the Renegade really is, and have taunted him by bringing up his old friend Bodhi. This caused Beck to become unfocused, to the point where he was often derezzed.

When he's not the Renegade, Beck doesn't seem to follow much in regards to the uprising, or Tesler's response to it. Of course, this is different if something comes knocking at his doorstep, but doesn't seem to track the news as much as others do. But when he is the Renegade, Beck accepts the fact that he's basically the face (which is kind of ironic, since he hides his face...) of the resistance, and that the future of Argon City, of the Grid, depends on him.

Of course, there are times when Beck doubts himself. Taking up the role and responsibility of the new System Monitor is a big deal, and the effort it takes shows. When he's working in the garage, he's much more tired...if he's even there at all. Training has taken up a big part of his time, and the impact has shown. His coworkers and boss have commented on him not showing up as he used to, and it's had its impacts on his friendship with Zed and Mara. But despite his odd behavior, they still enjoy hanging out with him, and are there to support him when he needs it.

As the Renegade is the face of the resistance, he is often seen as bossy and commanding. If someone can't do a job that he's given them to do, he'll go ahead and do it alone. But when Beck is unsure of himself, he hesitates. And that certainly shows, as well.
Beck makes sure that there's enough differences between himself and the Renegade. While normally his light suit is black with his own unique circuitry, the Renegade's suit is entirely white, with the signature 'T' on the front. He's able to 'borrow' Tron's suit by connecting half of his mentor's identity disc with his own. And when he's not able to use the half-disc, he reprograms his light suit to become almost entirely black with a few blue lines going down the front, with the 'T' standing out on his chest. He lowers his voice and uses a voice alternator to disguise himself a little more, and uses a head mask to cover his face. There have only been a select few times where Beck allows someone to see his face while disguised as the Renegade.

One thing the Renegade is known for is his humor, which is much more silly than his normal sense is. When he's in combat, or stuck in a tricky situation, Beck will often taunt and to attempt to poke fun at the oppression, much to the irritation of those fighting against him. To some, he can even be seen as being arrogant...but he doesn't care. He'll do it anyway!
